Molly Ivins, 62, columnist and raconteur
Author and newspaper columnist Molly Ivins died January 31 at the age of 62. Ivins, a student at 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú during the 1962-63 academic year, passed away at her Austin, Texas, home after a long bout with inflammatory breast cancer.

Two years ago, 51ÁÔÆæÈë¿Ú senior Elisabeth Winkelman used her now famous recipe for baking challah bread to raise money for victims of the humanitarian crisis in Darfur. Her program, Challah for Hunger, is expanding to campuses across the nation, including NYU, Smith College, University of Rochester, and University of Texas at Austin, with more to come, and has received recognition from Elie Wiesel and Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, the Chief Rabbi of England.
